A wonderful series with great commentary, Stephen. I like this shot very much, though my personal choice might have been to crop out the sky entirely and see whether that did not make for greater intimacy "into" the subject matter. Just my two cents...
Head of a woman, with curls at the front of her head and her hair twisted round in a tight bun at the back. This was a hairstyle very popular with ladies in Rome in Flavian times (69-96 A.D.) and shows that Roman fashionable styles came to Britain early in the Roman occupation.
The head could have been fixed on a tomb of a lady.
